Resource Centre for Labour
Market Research The Resource Centre for Labour Market Research (in Dutch, Steunpunt WAV - Werkgelegenheid, Arbeid en Vorming) is allied to the Catholic University of Leuven. It is joint venture of labour market research groups of the four most important Flemish universities: the Catholic University of Leuven, the University of Ghent, the University of Brussels and the University of Antwerp. The Resource Centre is doing research on labour market
statistics in close, systematic collaboration with the Higher Institute
for Labour Studies. The Resource Centre has been commissioned by the Flemish
Government to publish an annual yearbook on the labour market. This yearbook
includes comments on the most relevant and current market trends, based
on the statistical processing of all relevant national and international
administrative labour market statistics. The improvement of the quality,
availability and (international) comparability of labour market statistics
and labour market data is one of the core businesses of the Resource Centre.
Another example of the core business is the data warehouse for labour
market data. At the request of the Belgian Federal Government, the Resource Centre was involved in establishing such a data warehouse. Several administrative sources of data on the labour market have been linked together. This means that transitions in the labour market can be reconstructed at the individual level for the Belgian working population. Another important task of the Resource Centre is network building with labour market researchers. This network building includes the publication of a quarterly on labour market research (Over.Werk), and the organisation of scientific symposia such as the 'Labour Market Researchers Conference' and the 'Labour Market Statistics Conference'. The Resource Centre is contributing its expertise in labour market statistics to the STILE project, in particular to the work packages aimed at investigating mobility in the eEconomy and fine-tuning the coding and classification of sectors and occupations.
