Joanne
H. Pratt Associates is a virtual company led by Joanne Pratt. From the publication
of its early survey of homebased workers in 1980, the firm has been recognised
as an authority on all aspects of homebased work including business impacts,
transportation and air quality implications, family issues, and impacts on corporate
work patterns, neighbourhood crime, and land use. The firm does not have employees
but works with virtual teams assembled for each project. Pratt Associates works
in three areas:
- we
assist organisations in assessing and implement teleworking. As consultants
for both public and private organisations, the firm helps train employees
to work from home offices;
- we
research trends in changing work patterns. Pratt Associates has explored a
lot of issues related to telework ranging from technological to legal and
to psychosocial impacts of telework. Particularly relevant to this project
is Pratt Associates’ work on incorporating the measurement of telework into
US surveys including the Bureau of Census Survey
of Income and Program Participation, (SIPP),
the Current Population Survey (the
US primary employment survey), the
National Longitudinal Surveys, American Housing
Survey, and the National Personal
Transportation Survey. We completed for the Bureau of Transportation Statistics
of the US Department of Transportation an analysis of sources of data on telecommuting
and other work carried out in or from homes. We have persuaded government
agencies and private organisations to standardise the wording of telecommuting/telework
questions so that the data is meaningful and can be compared across surveys;
- the
firm has extensive experience designing and conducting household surveys,
mail surveys, case studies, and telephone and personal interviews.
